The author's requirement was to convey the unreality of what is happening against the backdrop of real historical landscapes or times. I chose Escher's approach to space, where the so-called "mistakes" in the construction of space led to the construction of an unreal, mystical space.
I chose the pencil as the most accurate and "compliant" technique. Some original illustrations are available for purchase here
